Free Gingival Graft

What is a free gingival graft?

Free gingival grafts are a surgical procedure often used to increase the amount of keratinized tissue or “tough tissue” around a tooth or implant. Having enough tough tissue will prevent the worsening of gingival recession. Our periodontists and team will take tissue from a different area of your mouth and use it to help grow new healthy tissue around your gumline. It is very important to take good care of your gum graft after the surgery and not disturb the site. Disturbing the site can disrupt the wound healing and cause complications. Our periodontists and dental staff will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your gum graft. After the procedure, you will have an increased amount of tough tissue in the area that was treated, which will help prevent the worsening of gingival recession.

This is a very common procedure that results in a lot of success for our patients.
